REIKI

The word Reiki is made of 2 Japanese words:
‘Rei‘ which means ‘sacred’, ‘soul’, ‘spirit’, ‘the wisdom and knowledge of all the Universe’, it represents the Higher Intelligence that guides the creation and functioning of the universe.
‘Ki‘, which is the life-force energy that flows through every living things, people, plants, animals, and which is present in some form in everything around us, even in rocks and inanimate objects.
Unlike the ‘Ki’, which is a stream of energy present everywhere and in everything, Reiki doesn’t flow automatically through everyone from birth and only flows through people who have been “attuned” to its high vibrational frequency. This attunement is the way in which the healing ability of Reiki is passed energetically from a Reiki Master to a student during a sacred ceremony, where there is a connection between the Reiki energy and Reiki Master, which is then transferred to the student who will become a channel for Reiki.

What are the benefits of Reiki?

Everyone can learn to channel the Reiki energy and also benefit from it, and the great thing is that you don’t have to believe in Reiki for it to work, as you will naturally feel its benefits.
The benefits of Reiki are numerous as it brings comfort and deep relaxation, energises and balances the whole body, strengthens the immune system, eases muscle tension, helps with recovery of an infection or injury, promotes pain relief, peace of the mind, body and spirit. It basically supports our own body’s natural ability to heal itself on physiological, psychological, emotional and spiritual levels. It can also enhance other complementary therapies such as Reflexology and massage.
How does Reiki work?
It has been confirmed by scientists that everything in the universe is made up of energy.
Reiki is a universal healing energy that vibrates at a very high frequency, working at an energetic level with the physical matter of the body and the electromagnetic field that surrounds it. The Reiki therapist channels this spiritual energy which is all around us to flow into the recipient.
Typically, the physical responses experienced during a Reiki treatment are deep relaxation, tingling, heat or cooling sensations flowing through areas of the body. People who receive Reiki may also reach a meditative state and feel like they are floating, sinking, see images, colours. Sometimes people may experience a “healing crisis” and the release of past or suppressed emotions and problems. This is the result of Reiki energy vibrating through the body balancing energy and stimulating the body’s natural healing process.

What to expect from a Reiki treatment?
I typically start with a chat to get to know your history or any issues you wish to talk about. There may not be any particular symptom or illness you are experiencing, which does not matter as all forms of energy work are great to maintain us in good health/ prevent disease. All information are of course confidential.

I make sure you are comfortable laying down on the massage table, fully dressed and cover you with a soft blanket and lavender eye mask if you wish. I will then ask for the Reiki energy to start flowing once you are settled. Essential oils, herbs and crystals may be used to support healing, and beautiful music will play in the background whilst I intentionally lay my hands above you.
The treatment lasts between 45 min- 1 hour depending on how much healing has to be done.

It is very common to doze during a treatment, and to feel like you are floating afterwards. I'll slowly help bring you back into your body by the sound of my Tibetan bowl. I'll help you remain in that wellbeing state by giving you aftercare advice and chat about your experience.

Within 24-48 hours after the treatment, you will typically feel very relaxed but you could also experience reactions such as: tiredness, heightened emotions, thirst, increased micturition, feeling hot/cold, increase in your symptoms. Do not worry, this is part of a ‘healing crisis’ as your body is re-balancing itself, so just put your mind at rest and drink plenty of water to help with this clearing process.
